Asagao xx made history at a young age, even though he never saw a racetrack as a Thoroughbred. He was the undisputed winner at the 2013 Schaufenster Vollblut (Fullblood Showcase) and was the talk of the town afterward, and even after his 70-day test in Marbach. He completed the 70-day test with the best result ever achieved by a Thoroughbred. A year later, he demonstrated his qualities as a sport horse: He won and placed in numerous show jumping classes and won numerous A and L cross-country horse tests with scores of 9 points. As a Thoroughbred, he was denied entry to the Bundeschampionat (Federal Championships), but easily achieved the required qualification. At the age of six, Asagao xx achieved his first international successes in CIC* competitions and, at the age of seven, was placed in show jumping classes up to M** level. Asagao xx has placed internationally up to CCI**S and made a name for himself with his well-known show routine “Moving Course.” Here, he regularly demonstrates his rideability, his nerves of steel, his jumping ability, and his enjoyment of the sport.

Highly Successful Offspring

With his first foal crop in 2018, the flagship stallion immediately caused a stir. From just a dozen foals, he produced three show winners in pure warmblood rings and two foals qualified for Lieben (German Foal Championships) in a variety of breedings. From this crop, he also produced his licensed son, Asaltar (dam by Carthago). Asaltar completed his jumping-focused sport test in Münster-Handorf with a score of over 8.0 and placed in show jumping and cross-country horse tests up to elementary level at 4- and 5-year-old age. He was also a finalist at the 2020 Federal Championships for 5-year-old eventing horses. His also licensed offspring, Areion H (dam by Fidermark), won the sport test in Münster-Handorf for versatile stallions with a score of 8.52. He received a score of 9.0 for his lope and rideability, and an overall rating of 9.2. He concluded his highly successful first season with 4th place in the final of the Bundeschampionat for 5-year-old eventing horses. He has now placed in international eventing competitions up to CCI2* level. In 2020, Asagao’s third son, All Night, was licensed in Neumünster. Aaron Copland also received a positive licensing assessment and has already placed in show jumping competitions. Atreju and Adenauer were the next licensed sons to follow. Asagao’s offspring have now won up to CCI2*-L and have been placed in CCI3*-S. His offspring continue to make a lasting impression, especially in young horse competitions. At the 2020 Bundeschampionat for eventing horses, no other sire fielded as many participants as this exemplary thoroughbred. His offspring are now in demand worldwide and are successfully used in eventing competitions around the globe. Asagao xx passes on to his offspring rideability, willingness to perform, sustainability, and the necessary toughness to ensure long-term success in the sport.

Sustainable Performance Breeding

The quality of Asagao xx is based on sustainable performance breeding. His sire, the Schlenderhan stallion Tertullian xx, won 12 races and was a top sprinter. His granddam, Allegretta, was sold to England by the Schlenderhan stud and made breeding history. Her daughter, Urban Sea, won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, among others, and produced Galileo von Sadler’s Wells, among others. Stallions from the mare family include Armand (Holstein), Augustinus (Celle), and Akitos (Warendorf).

Asagao xx’s dam, Ariostea xx, also produced offspring for racing and eventing. Her sire, Tagel, was also recognized for the Selle Francais. His granddam, Lady Berry, is also the great-grandmother of the German wonder mare, Danedream. Ariostea xx belongs to the same family as Amerigo Vespucci, who made a name for himself in eventing as the sire of Air Jordan (Frank Ostholt). The stallions Fürst Nymphenburg I and II also came from this mare line. The half-sister of Asagao xx (Lissaro x Ariostea xx) won the team gold medal at the European Eventing Championships. She finished fourth in the individual competition. The mare won the silver medal in the junior category at the German Youth Championships.
