The career of the extraordinary sire Contendro I in key words: 1999 Holstein premium stallion, winner of the 2000 stallion performance test, placed in the 2001 Holstein Riding Horse Championships and nominated for the Bundeschampionat. His heavy breeding schedule only allowed sporadic appearances at shows but when he competed, he always took home a ribbon.
His sire, Contender, is one of the world’s leading jumper-makers. His dam Bravo is also the dam of the licensed stallion Caretano Z (by Caretino) who died much too early in 2001 after a brief but highly successful career as the 1997 Vice Bundeschampion, 1999 World champion of 7-year old show jumpers and placing in the World Cup Final of Gothenberg/SWE. She also gave birth to a full sister, BB Caretana/Niklaus Schurtenberger/SUI, a highly successful international show jumper mare. In 2003, Bravo gave birth to Contendro I’s full brother Contendro II, her third licensed son, and in 2008 her fourth, the Holstein Verband stallion Cassito (by Cassiano). The granddam, Ofarim, is the dam of a licensed stallion named Conteur (by Contender) who qualified for the Nürnberg Burg Pokal. Her daughter Evita XII (by Reichsgraf) is the dam of the licensed Caballo (by Coriano), who is successful in the US.
Contendro I is one of the best advertisements for the famous Holstein performance line 104 a. By the time he was 14 years old, he was a prize-winning millionaire. Meanwhile, Contendro’s offspring have won more than 1.6 million Euros in prizes. Nearly 40 of his offspring successfully compete in advanced (S) level dressage. At least 86 of his sons were licensed and more than 98 daughters have been awarded a State Premium. Contendro I has sent around 250 offpring just the auctions in Verden alone. In 2012, Contendro I was by far the youngest sire among the top 13 of the world’s best jumper-makers according to the WBFSH Ranking (World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses) and he ranked tenth among event sires. Figures that impressively prove the exceptional status of Contendro I.
Contentro I’s offspring also made headlines in 2012. Not only the Olympic Game participant, Codex One, surpassed the 100,000 Ero prize money benchmark but also Holiday by Solitour with Janne Friederike Meyer and Constantin B with Hans-Dieter Dreher. And it won’t be long now before Queen Mary, Corvin, Eurocommerce Callahan and Campbel reach this mark.Corona, ridden by Sandra Afffarth, took the Bundeschampion title for event horses (5-year olds). Conrolus (breeder: Claus Delfs, Steinburg) tok the Vice Champion title at the Dobrock “Deister” Show Jumper Championships and then fifth place in the Bundeschampionat Final. Twelve Contendro offspring alone qualified for Warendorf. Concalido won the Final of the Hanoverian Championships in the class for four-year old show jumpers and was then sold at the P.S.I. Auction. Contina (breeder: Bernd Riehm, Weil der Stadt) won the Free Jumping Competition in Vechta in the class for four-year olds.
